[!filk]I feel kind of silly doing another filk so soon, but after today's comic, I also feel that I needed to.[/!filk]

SADDER BUT WISER
A filk by C*Foxtrot of the song of the same name from The Music Man
Apologies to Meredith Wilson

No timid, cuter, smaller, dating-sim virtual woman for me
That kinda girl spins webs no server ever --
Listen boy,
A girl you find in this famous city
May not want to lose her own illusions for your reality.

But this one no illusions can make smile
It seems she's missed them for a while.
No genki, curious, gleaming Sony android, no sir!
With no E.D.S. will I play sims, I can tell you that right now.

I snarl, I hiss, what unfortunate fate brought her to this?
I spark, I fizz, for the lady who learned what stardom is.
I cheer, I rave, for performances that she once gave.
The sadder but wiser girl for me.

No gold-eyed, gothic, darkly mysterious lady, no sir!
That kinda girl twists plots no artist ever drew.
My preferences lean toward
The fallen star who once soared.
No pig-tailed young miss who keeps insisting
On a lesson you keep missing.

No timid, smaller, dating-sim female, no sir!
Why, she's the Asmo-cat, I'm the bird, you see? Chomp!

I flinch, I shy, just to think Erika's life had been a lie!
I smile, I grin when Hayasaka busts some pervert's chin.
I hope, I pray that someday she'll find a game to play.

The sadder but wiser girl's the girl for me.
The sadder but wiser girl for me!

SADDER BUT WISER
(c)1957 M. Willson

No wide-eyed, eager, wholesome, innocent Sunday-school teacher for me.
That kinda girl spins webs no spider ever --
Listen boy,
A girl who trades on all that purity
Merely wants to trade my independence for her security.

The only affirmative she will file
refers to marching down the aisle.
No golden, glorious, gleaming pristine goddess, no sir!
For no Diana do I play Faun, I can tell you that right now.

I snarl, I hiss, how can ignorance be compared to bliss?
I spark, I fizz, for the lady who knows what time it is.
I cheer, I rave, for the virtue I'm too late to save.
The sadder but wiser girl for me.

No bright-eyed, blushing, breathless baby-doll baby, no sir!
That kinda child ties knots no sailor ever knew.
I prefer to take a chance
On a more adult romance.
No dewy young miss who keeps resisting
All the time she keeps insisting.

No wide-eyed, wholesome, innocent female, no sir!
Why, she's the fisherman, I'm the fish, you see? Plop!

I flinch, I shy when the lass with the delicate air goes by.
I smile, I grin when the gal with a touch of sin walks in.
I hope, I pray for Hester to win just one more 'A'.

The sadder but wiser girl's the girl for me.
The sadder but wiser girl for me!

This one was harder than I expected and took a lot more work than my first. Overall, I'm pleased with it, but I think it starts weak and gets better towards the end. The song comes from the old musical The Music Man, which I probably watched at least 50 times when I was little. Erika has always made me think of this song, and only with [420]'s revelation have I gotten enough material to try to do it justice.
