Story ForumA filk of Garden Party
With apologies to the late Ricky Nelson
By C*Foxtrot
I went to the story forum to speculate with all the fans.
A chance to share old memories and read the strips again.
When you get to the story forum, they only know your name,
Better get an avatar, or we'll all look the same.
But it's all right now, we've learned our lesson well.
You see, Fred will tease everyone with the secrets he won't tell.
People toss theories around, anything is fair,
Miho and her ribbons - is there magic in her hair?
And over injured Largo, not a big surprise,
Erika stood in cosplay clothes - why the strange disguise?
But it's all right now, we've learned our lesson well.
You see, Fred will tease everyone with the secrets he won't tell.
We read through all the old strips, 'bout Yuki and her bear,
No one hears the angels, despite how much they care,
Kimiko said "Gomen, Piro", she had burned his lap,
After Ping-chan flung Mister Turtle about, it was time to nap.
But it's all right now, we've learned our lesson well.
You see, Fred will tease everyone with the secrets he won't tell.
Someone opened up the colo door and out stepped Makoto-rin,
Serving pages and a-pingin' well for the fanboys swarmin' in.
If you wanna join the story forum, then I hope you don't get drunk,
'Cause our memories are pretty good for thoughts already thunk[1].
But it's all right now, we've learned our lesson well.
You see, Fred will tease everyone with the secrets he won't tell.
[1] I know it's wrong, but it's funnier that way. It's a programming joke.

Garden Party
by Ricky Nelson
I went to a garden party to reminisce with my old friends.
A chance to share old memories and play our songs again.
When I got to the garden party, they all knew my name,
But no one recognized me, I didn't look the same.
But it's all right now. I learned my lesson well.
You see, you can't please everyone, so you got to please yourself.
People came from miles around. Everyone was there.
Yoko brought her walrus. There was magic in the air.
And over in the corner, much to my surprise,
Mister Hughes hid in Dylan's shoes wearing his disguise.
But it's all right now. I learned my lesson well.
You see, you can't please everyone, so you got to please yourself.
I played them all the old songs, I thought that's why they came.
No one heard the music. We didn't look the same.
I said hello to Mary Lou, she belongs to me.
When I sang a song about a Honky-Tonk, it was time to leave.
But it's all right now. I learned my lesson well.
You see, you can't please everyone, so you got to please yourself.
Someone opened up a closet door and out stepped Johnny B. Goode,
Playing guitar like a-ringin' a bell and lookin' like he should.
If you gotta play at garden parties, I wish you a lotta luck,
But if memories were all I sang, I'd rather drive a truck.
But it's all right now. I learned my lesson well.
You see, you can't please everyone, so you got to please yourself. -----------------
First off, this is a fairly old song with a lot of references to older songs, so I apologize if not many people know it - it's also my first try at this. I really like the original and picked it because I think it does have an important message. I was trying to show a balance between nostalgia for the older strips and curiosity for the future, with a dash of the craziness of the forums thrown in. I know I succeeded on the craziness part.

I tried to preserve a lot of the structure and rhyme of the original as well, but some parts had to be completely rewritten and rearranged, while others pretty much wrote themselves. I spent a heck of a lot of time counting syllables and tried to split my lines up the same way they were in the original.
Man, that was some hard work...
