They packed up their baggage, but I'm overseas-confined

Well, they saw the contest, and they played campaigns
They got to sing songs, then the masquerade
Well, they heed the call, took the photograph
Though I was just a derelict, never caught the flame. Profane.

I must have chosen the wrong reasons to stay home
I never realized I missed this place so hard
My boredom-crime, hell, just a weekend's rhymes
I'll score me a little work, at the mall part-time

Gonna earn some cash, gonna go next year
SD's fangirls really do up and leave a man all alone
Are there today, three days spent, there in Baltimore?

Not Going to Baltimore (Otakon '06)

I'm sitting in an airport
Watching planes in the air.
I'm not really going anywhere,
But I'm told I'm a darn good sport.

I've lost count of the consecutive years
I haven't attended Otakon,
But it's been since its dawn
And - wait, let me wipe this tear.

Perhaps if I had a reliable car
I could meet my friends at that place
(Though I've never seen their face
They all have nice avatars).

So when you're standing in those lines
And enjoying prestigious panels
Think of me moping under my sheets of flannel,
Filkin' away and killing time.

Down in Baltimore (Otakon '06)

Well, now. I didn't even know that it was time for a con
Work has me so thrown off -- if I'd known, I would have gone.
Wait. I don't have half the money I'd be needing to go
Can't pay for airfare, and I can't drive, hail, sun, rain, or snow
Working full time, but the taxman's taking more than I know
Every paycheck only gives me three fourths of the dough
And I know two-thirds of that goes to the net and rent
If I want more to eat than Ramen, then it's already spent.
I work full time for this, and I'm back in school in three weeks
Maybe I'll save during the year, (or pay my loans), man, this reeks
But I'm a geek, and work is easy, so it's not a hard life
I'm just broke like Windows Vista, but I'm doing all right.
