JT back again after the with another progressive rock/metal filk, this one of "Solitary Shell" by Dream Theater from the album Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (I'm sure everyone was eagerly anticipating another filk of a song the great majority of folks here haven't ever heard ~.~)
Both sets of lyrics deal with mental instability, though I'm sure you'll recognize whom the subject of my set is. ~.~ (Perhaps all these filks about him is a sign of becoming a fanboy..hmm..)
Imaginary World
I remember the day that we first met
In my search for a roommate
He asked me if I liked to game
I said "yes" and sealed my fate
At first, we got along just fine
But then I noticed something wrong
He seemed unable to see truth
He saw zombies everywhere
I began to consider him somewhat strange
He kept trying to pull me in
I had to keep trying to keep him sane
But in other ways, I guess he was fine
He's an every morning lunatic
Disturbed almost all the time
Lost within his head
In his imaginary world
A near-permanent catatonic
Madman when it suits him
When will he break out
Of his imaginary world?
He couldn't get through his days
He was oh, so far behind
So he poured himself into the screen
Gaming for days at a time
As a man he is a danger to himself
Delusioned and angry most of the time
I'm not even sure if he knows reality
But as a good friend, I guess he is fine
He's an every morning lunatic
Disturbed almost all the time
Lost within his head
In his imaginary world
A near-permanent catatonic
Madman when it suits him
When will he break out
Of his imaginary world?
Solitary Shell
lyrics by John Petrucci
music by Myung, Petrucci, Portnoy, Rudess
He seemed no different from the rest
Just a healthy normal boy
His mama always did her best
And he was daddy's pride and joy
He learned to walk and talk on time
But never cared much to be held
and steadily he would decline
Into his solitary shell
As a boy he was considered somewhat odd
Kept to himself most of the time
He would daydream in and out of his own world
but in every other way he was fine
He's a Monday morning lunatic
Disturbed from time to time
Lost within himself
In his solitary shell
A temporary catatonic
Madman on occasion
When will he break out
Of his solitary shell
He struggled to get through his day
He was helplessly behind
He poured himself onto the page
Writing for hours at a time
As a man he was a danger to himself
Fearful and sad most of the time
He was drifting in and out of sanity
But in every other way he was fine
He's a Monday morning lunatic
Disturbed from time to time
Lost within himself
In his solitary shell
A momentary maniac
With casual delusions
When will he be let out
Of his solitary shell
