Turn Back Time
A filk-fic of Be Like That
Apologies to Three Doors Down
By Arram

A lone figure walks down what appears to have been a street long ago, but years of war had made it almost unrecognizable. There is debris for literally miles all around, with several shells of former buildings dotting the landscape. The sky is dark with clouds, and lightning can be seen to be flickering across the sky. It is ten years after the Great Fanboy War.

He spends his life in Megatokyo
Wondering 'bout how things had been
And then he perks his head at the thunder
No one here but me

The city around him had once been glorious. Skyscrapers had literally touched the clouds, and technology had known no bounds. The factions of the Main Characters, the Church of Miho, Erika Multinational, the Kimiko Army, and the Yuki Liberation Front, just to name a few, had coexisted in relative peace for nearly a decade. There had almost always been a scuffle going on between at least a few of them, but there had always been a sense of camaraderie within Megatokyo. But one day, the tension within the city skyrocketed. The first big hit held with it the equivalent of the American stock market crash in 1929: the Church of Miho fell.

'Cause in his life he's seen factions fall in contention
He's lost a lot of things he'd rather not mention right now
Just before he said goodbye
He looked up, with a smirk for that city and he says

The fall of the Church of Miho was quite unexpected by a majority of the population. Their leader, BGMaster, had just stepped down from his position as the Right Hand of Miho, mainly because he died, and it had appeared that there would be a quick and easy succession with the drow Shadowdancer Duskstar. But unfortunately, things did not go as smoothly as planned. Chaos broke loose for too many reasons to remember, and the consequences were fatal. The Church was no more. The balance of power was ruptured so horribly, that a Second Great Fanboy War broke out, and all-out destruction once again made its way to Megatokyo.

If I could turn back time
I would give anything
Just to live the past
Once again
If I could turn back time
I could stop doom
I could stop doom, yea

Arram stared over the vacant and devastated lot that had once been his home: YLF-18. The war that had started had been the cause of him loosing this base. But it wasn't the only casualty of the war. Oh no. The entire population of Megatokyo had been wiped out. There had been no rules. After the fall of the CoM, the lesser, newer factions were the first to go. They had not been able to put up much of a fight against the older, established factions. But then they, too, would crumble, one by one. By now, the Main Characters knew of the factions representing them, and they had fled for shelter within them. Each faction's defeat was marked by their leaders' fall, as once they were gone, the path to the Main Character was clear, and the members of the faction all lost hope. The first of the Old Order to fall was the Temple of Ping. There forces had put up the most valiant fight of any of the factions of the entire war, but they're ideologies and pie were not enough to withstand the others. Opt and Ping had been fighting back to back, holding off a temple full of ORAZians by themselves, but eventually Ping's batteries ran out, and they were both felled.

Now in dreams they roam

The next to fall was the United Fangirls of Largo-sama. Erika Multinational had targeted the hospital because of a very unfortunate fiasco surrounding IntelliAyanami and the Netwide 1337 Ninja Junpei 4dmirers. Erika Multinational had planned to pack up and leave Megatokyo, unwilling to participate in such fighting, but then something happened that ruined their plan of pacifism. N1NJ4, knowing that if they didn't take drastic measures they'd be soon crushed, decided to strike at Erika Multinational, or more specifically, Iain Caduceus. They kidnapped IntelliAyanami, Iain's girlfriend, from the UFL, and demanded a large ransom, and amnesty within Erika Multinational's walls before they would return her unharmed. Caduceus, enraged that they would ever do such a thing, quickly mobilized Erika's Errant Knights, and they proceeded to attack N1NJ4. Although N1NJ4 was quickly defeated, IntelliAyanami had not made it through. She'd died in Caduceus' arms just as they'd found her locked up in a cell that was half destroyed from the fighting. Caduceus, his anger soaring to new heights, had quickly found Sabin. They fought, and while Sabin managed to give Caduceus a serious wound, Iain's skills as an Errant Knight were superior, and Sabin lay, mortally wounded, at his feet. Sabin, thirsting for revenge, attempted to sow the seeds of discord, lying about how the UFL had set this up, and lying about many other things about the UFL that made them seem like the most evil entity on the planet. Iain, disgusted at his obvious lies, quickly ended Sabin's life, and proceeded to collapse into unconsciousness from blood loss. But then fate decided to play one of its cruel jokes. The one who was to take command if Caduceus fell had been in that room with Sabin, and he had believed what he'd said. He quickly mobilized the entirety of Erika Multinational against the United Fangirls of Largo-sama while Iain lay recuperating behind EM's walls. Fox and Izuko, handling negations elsewhere, could not intervene. EEK and normal EM troops soon had infiltrated the hospital as injured fanboys, and not even Dr. Lightsider foresaw what was coming. The entire hospital, once filled with "injured" EM forces, was quickly overrun once the signal was given. Meagen had been injured as she was treating one of them, and while she tried to fight with her patented Big Stick, it was Largo and his C00l Thing that kept them alive for as long as they lasted. Draegos would never forgive himself for putting his faction first that day instead of being by his love's side.

She spends her days up in Shinjuku
Watching the rubble that she's passed
And all she wants is to rewrite some of history
Is that too much to ask?

Ironically, Erika Multinational would soon fall to a combined attempt by the Kimiko Fanboy Horde and the Yuki Liberation Front. They fought efficiently and courageously, but they could not withstand such overwhelming odds. Caduceus, who'd soon recovered, found out about the EM attack on the UFL, and, despite executing his second-in-command for doing such a thing, resigned himself to the fact that he could not run now. Erika, who hadn't been informed on the attack until after it was done as well, agreed with Caduceus, and, despite objections, decided to stay and fight. As the battle waned, the final four, Caduceus, Fox, Izuko, and Erika herself, had holed themselves up on the top floor, and were successfully stopping their enemies' advances. Arram and Snow hadn't even been able to get within 50 yards of that room. But Draegos, who'd just gotten word of his beloved Meagen's death halfway through the fight, eventually found out which room they were in, and his fury could not be stopped. Technomancer and pop-idol alike fell that dark day.

With a safe home, and a warm bed
Within a peaceful city
All she wants is for a home she can return to
That's all she needs
Yea

Several days after Erika Multinational's annihilation, a dispute arose between the Kimiko Army, and the Order of Rent-A-Zilla. The Kimiko Fanboy Horde was quick to merge with the Kimiko Army, but when the fight against ORAZ came, Snow's conflicted allegiances caused him to disappear for this particular battle. The two factions would have ended in stalemate, but the Yuki Liberation Front, seeking to capitalize on the turmoil, mobilized against both factions. The results were catastrophic. ORAZ proved to be much more powerful than either the Kimiko Army or the Yuki Liberation front had predicted, and, even though an armistice was once again called between the Kimikoists and Yukiites, both of their armies had been nearly decimated by the time they crushed ORAZ. Asimov, Durden, and Vetinari had been the last to fight, each, except Vetinari, mounted on their own Rent-A-Zillas. Unfortunately, these final forces were not enough to quench Draegos' still enraged psyche, as well as the combined power of the KA and YLF. ORAZ was no more.

If I could turn back time
I would give anything
Just to live the past
Once again
If I could turn back time
I could stop doom
I could stop doom
Yea
I'm falling into this, in dreams
We run away

The Piroists, who, with WoK, Mahou, and Piro within their ranks, had been feared as an enormous threat since when the war broke out, and they had remained relatively neutral. But as the KA and YLF, enjoying the power of their combined armies, grew in confidence, they made the move to challenge Piro's Obsessively Loyal Ensemble. What they found surprised them. The chaos and turmoil of the war had drained every last drop of WoK's kawaii. If it had not been for a young soldier's overeager actions, she would not have lost her life that day. The soldier was promptly shot by Draegos, Arram, Snow, McFinnigan, and Hatcheter all at the same time, but the damage had been done. The nekomancer would never enjoy another skittle again. They found Mahou next, and the war had had the same effect on her as WoK, but Mahou's angst had proved too much, and she had died because of it. Even one such as strong as her could not withstand so much angst and horror. The last to be found was Piro himself. He was alone in a dark room. Drawing. Every person that rushed into that room that day could only help but stare, as Piro, who had gone insane, just continued to draw, never stopping. The room still stands, and while he soon died of hunger and thirst, he shall forevermore be in the hunched act of drawing his favorite characters.

If I could turn back time
I would give anything
Just to live the past
Once again
If I could turn back time
I could stop doom
I could stop doom…

The next day, the Kimiko Army's and Yuki Liberation Front's armistice was no more. Because the one that killed WoK had been with the YLF, the Kimiko Army declared retribution, and the war continued. This battle lasted far longer than the others, as both armies were war torn and worn down. Soon, although the common troops still fought, it came down to two battles: Arram vs. Snow, and Draegos vs. Hatch and McFinnigan. After many days of constant fighting and stalemate, the tide began to turn. Unfortunately for the commander of the Kimiko Fanboy Horde, Snow's armor began to feel the strain of such a prolonged battle at such high intensity. He continued the fight for another three days, but his armor, drained of energy, informed him that it was making an emergency shutdown, and proceeded to do so. In normal circumstances, when his CGCI armor performed an emergency shutdown, it would simply disable and morph away. However, just when it initiated its shutdown, a foreign object intervened in the process: Arram's blade. When a foreign object was introduced during an emergency shutdown, then in theory, the intruding object would be pulled farther into the user's body, with the armor wrapping around it. Basically this created an expanding hole and ended with a very large fused nanomachine/metal combination in Snow's chest cavity. The armor announced that it would go critical within seconds. Arram, knowing what was to come, saluted Snow, and translocated away, leaving his blade behind. No man could have ever survived the resulting explosion. Arram had quickly returned to YLF-18's base to find it smashed to rubble, much like the city around him. Fortunately, a small radio crew was on hand to inform him of the news. Draegos' fight with Hatch and McF had moved to within' the Yuki Liberation Front's headquarters. Apparently, Draegos had meant to flee as the two on one battle, with Hatch negating his Texan Awesomeness, was not going well, but the two had followed him through the stargate to Na Pali. Arram had wasted no time, gating to Na Pali and quickly finding the battle. He would never forget what happened next. Draegos was holding off Hatch and McF, and just behind him, petrified with fright, was Yuki herself. A hit from Hatcheter had caused one of Draegos' duel Enforcers to go flying, right into McFinnigan's hands. Arram had steadily been creeping closer, knowing if he were noticed, he would not stand a chance. But then, McFinnigan spotted him. Leveling the Enforcer at Arram's head, Arram knew he was dead. But then fate intervened. Draegos had gotten an extremely lucky shot with his other Enforcer at Hatch, and Hatch was sent flying into McF. McF pulled the trigger an instant after he was hit, and his arm was definitely not pointing at Arram when he did so. No, it was pointed straight at Yuki. Draegos realized this in a single split second and, summoning the rest of his strength, lunged in front of the bullet's path. The Enforcer round quickly pierced his armor…and his heart. He died instantly. Arram screamed, and in a fit of rage, jumped up from where he had been crouching and made quick work of the still tangled Hatcheter and McFinnigan. He rushed to Draegos' side, but he already knew it was too late. It was the only time he ever let another person see him cry. After Arram had recovered from hysteria, he and Yuki, too stunned from what they'd just witnessed, slowly made their way to the stargate, and gated back to Megatokyo. Arram slowly guided them back to YLF-18, the only place he knew others to be, but when they got there, they only found the radio. Their faces darkened considerably at what was being broadcast on all channels. Kimiko had apparently taken refuge within the Kimiko Army's arcade. Unfortunately, the entire structure had collapsed, and it was not believed that there would be any survivors by the time a rescue effort could be initiated. There was no hope for Kimiko. But someone disbelived.

The crunching of gravel under boot was broken by the soft crackle of a radio. A KA soldier, a mere fanboy, heard his Idol's voice, and her quiet pleas for help. He rushed as quick as he could to the arcade. He hadn't found help along the way, but that wouldn't stop him from trying. He leapt onto the rubble, and dug through the building's wreckage, hands torn and bleeding. She was crying over the radio, begging anyone to come. Still he pulled at the pile, screaming for someone, anyone, to aid him. She was dying there! Trapped under the remains of the arcade built to protect her. The barren street echoed back his wails with all the empathy crumbled concrete could produce. He could hear her pleas fading now, growing ever weaker, as she began to lose hope. He howled, a rage ripping through his throat as he fought with inhuman determination, struggling to reach her. "Piro ..." the radio cackled clearly, giving him a slight pause. His vision blurred as a another guttural cry tore from his throat, he attacked the debris again, knowing it to be useless. "...I'm so sorry, Piro..."

The war was over.

If I could turn back time

Just to live the past
Once again
If I could turn back time

I could stop doom…

Yuki paused outside what had once been the Megagamers store. By a twist of fate, it had remained the one building to sustain the least amount of damage. She checked her watch. He was late. Three and a half minutes later, she saw Arram walking down the street towards her. He'd obviously been reminiscing of the past, just as she had been. They would never forget what had happened one year ago.

"Hey. How was Shinjuku?"
"The same. But still, it's…nice to remember the time…before…"
"I know…"
"I'm glad I was able to keep at least single friend…"
"…I am too."

It started to rain. Arram slowly placed his arm around Yuki's shoulder, and the two walked into their makeshift home of Megagamers, another day gone.

If we could turn back time
We would give anything
Just to live the past
Once again
If we could turn back time
We could stop doom
Lord, we could stop doom
Yea, yea

Falling in,
I feel I'm falling in
To live again…
