On a dark fiber highway
I find something rare
Warm welcomes to newbies
And filks reading so fair
On the second page buried
I read a rhyme scheme so right
My muse grew jealous and I felt chagrin:
I hadn't posted that night

Nayuki is the one way
The preserver of posts
And I was thinking to myself
Free fame for filking, and cute bots for hosts
My muse turned up the volume
And my post was away
There were faces grown into the text
An' I could hear them say

Welcome to the Forums Megatokyo
Such a friendly place (Such a friendly place)
Such a friendly space
Plenty o' threads in the Forums MegaTokyo
Any time of year (Any time of year)
You'll find poets here

This post is scarily twisted
Reminds me of something _Quinn's
He writes a lot of clever, clever filks
With his friends
How they sing out between them
Sweet lyric sound
Some filk how they're searching
Some filk what they've found

[Now I call out, "Nayuki -
Please find me this line!"
She says, "we haven't had your past stored here since post #969"]
And still our muses are calling from far away
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to make you say

What polite surmise (What polite surmise)
In these bardic lies

Parenthetical verse threads
The slivovitz on ice
And we said
We are all just slaves around here
To the urge to write
Near the Master's hometown
Somewhere in Tennessee
We piled upon our finest verse
But the folks there still drink tea

Last evening, exhausted
I was making for my bed
I had to tear myself away
From the posts I'd not yet read
They smiled, and I know it's
Just a moment of reprieve -
You can log off any time you like
But you can never leave

(smurd-style source quote):

Hotel California
By the Eagles

On a dark desert highway
Cool wind in my hair
Warm smell of colitas
Rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance
I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy, and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There she stood in the doorway
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself
This could be Heaven or this could be Hell
Then she lit up a candle
And she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor
I thought I heard them say

Welcome to the Hotel California
Such a lovely place

Her mind is Tiffany twisted
She's got a Mercedes benz
She's got a lot of pretty, pretty boys
That she calls friends
How they dance in the courtyard
Sweet summer sweat
Some dance to remember
Some dance to forget
So I called up the Captain
Please bring me my wine
He said
We haven't had that spirit here since 1969
And still those voices are calling from far away
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say

Welcome to the Hotel California

Bring your alibies

Mirrors on the ceiling
Pink champagne on ice
And she said
We are all just prisoners here
Of our own device
And in the master's chambers
They gathered for the feast
They stab it with their steely knives
But they just can't kill the beast
Last thing I remember
I was running for the door
I had to find the passage back to the place I was before
Relax said the nightman
